Overview
Creative Tradition's mission is to encourage people of all ages to play Irish traditional music and to provide access to traditional music education to anyone who wishes to learn.
Established in 2013, Creative Tradition is a non-profit organisation that runs social, musical, and community projects in Cork. Our current activities include hosting:
-Club Ceoil Blarney
-Club Ceoil Knocknaheeny
-Primary school music programmes in St. Mary’s on the Hill in Knocknaheeny and Scoil Íosagáin in Farranree
-Other large events, like TradOrchestras, TradCamps, and youth trips to the Fleadh Cheoil and other festivals.
Creative Tradition also provides teacher training workshops and supports to educators, schools, and organisations that would like to add traditional music to their activities.
We provide classes in tin whistle, flute, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, bodhran, concertina, sean-nos dancing, and traditional singing (English and Irish language songs). As the name ‘Creative Tradition’ implies, we host composition workshops and facilitate creative music ensembles to guide students how to interpret, arrange, and create music themselves.
Our programmes in Knocknaheeny and Farranree run in partnership with Music Generation Cork City.
