Overview
Since 2000, the Douglas Tidy Towns group, with the support of Douglas Community Association, has been working as a voluntary group to enhance our village. Our aims include working with the local community to enhance, develop and maintain our environment, to include both natural and built heritage. Volunteer activities include litter picking, wild area management to include removal of alien species, biodiversity projects including our pollinator garden and tree planting, gardening both in formal planters and wild flower strips, etc. We also regularly run workshops and walking trails, and work closely with Cork City Council on the upkeep of the area. We participate in the national Tidy Towns adjudication programme which covers the following categories, which we also use to plan our programme of projects and activities: Approach Road; Community; Green Spaces & Landscaping; Nature & Biodiversity; Residential Streets & Housing Areas; Streetscape & Public Places; Sustainability - Doing more with less; Tidiness and Litter Control. We also have a Sustainable Community group.
