The strategy sets out a long term vision for communities in Ireland and sets a direction for Government policy in relation to community development, local development and the community and voluntary sector.

It forms part of a number of policy and strategy initiatives led by the Department Rural and Community Development, including the National Social Enterprise Policy for Ireland 2019-2022 and the forthcoming National Volunteering Strategy.
