Unleashing the Power of Play in School Playgrounds

This seminar by Cork City Play Forum will present the evidence of the many benefits associated with outdoor and non-structured play.
1. Introducing play in schools: An overview of children’s experiences of play in school playgrounds in 3 school settings in Cork: Projects led by Dr Helen Lynch, Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, UCC, and colleagues.
2. Sydney Playground Project : Dr Anita Bundy will present on The Sydney Playground Project, a multidisciplinary research project, based upon play and the many benefits associated with outdoor, non-structured play.
The findings, ideas and logistics of 2 Sydney Playground Projects will be discussed:
- Project 1 – was a whole school intervention in a mainstream school; the children were primarily typically-developing
- Project 2 – was in schools or programmes for children with autism and intellectual disability
